THE NEXT GENERATION OF TUBE-BUNDLE EXTRACTORS

R. O. P. E. CHANGES EVERYTHING

Removing tube bundles used to be a tough, dangerous and time consuming job that required large work crews.

The risky procedure involved large expensive cranes, air tuggers and winch-trucks. It also meant a loss of valuable stream time, work disruption and clutter in the area. No more.

R. O. P. E. changes everything. This innovative mobile technology requires no costly cranes, minimizes manpower needs and delivers major time-and-labor savings- while assuring maximum safety for work crews.

R. O. P. E. MOBILE EXTRACTOR: THE BETTER ANSWER

REMOVING EXCHANGERS

In final alignment, activated hydraulic cylinders shift the extractor to any direction required.

Individually controlled lift cylinders allow a 10 degree angle from front to back and side to side.

Vise-like clamps and cable slings secure the extractor.

The main car is moved forward to attach the break-out slings.

When the exchanger is pulled out about 3 feet, the pull bar is attached to the tube sheet.

The bundle is steadily pulled, cradled on 3 adjustable cars that travel on rollers on the main rails.

When the bundle has cleared the shell, the extractor is unclamped, aligned with the main frame, and lowered to the floor.

REPLACING A BUNDLE

The extractor's job need not end with the extraction process.

The in-place unit can also be used to install a new replacement

bundle. This added capability results in a double savings in a

maintenance schedule.

THE INDUSTRY LEADER

The R. O. P. E. Mobile Extractor is advanced technology that has evolved from our original Hydraulic Tube-Bundle Extractor, introduced in 1969.

It is the latest example of our ongoing pursuit of excellence. You cannot buy more proven, safer-to-operate equipment-backed by a company that has earned an impeccable reputation for quality service.

MANPOWER

Bundle removal and replacement using the Extractor can reduce man-power costs by as much as 50 percent. Nominal crew size is two trained workers, a crane operator and a tag line person.

The Extractor's specialized, faster-operating equipment also reduces wasteful streamline loss. Most bundles can be removed in 30 minutes.

EQUIPMENT SAVINGS

The Mobile Extractor can save millions in tooling investments. Eliminated are cranes, gantries, winch-trucks and other costly equipment and tools. The unit is a complete system. There's nothing extra to buy.

TIME SAVINGS

The Mobile Extractor's faster operation reduces wasteful streamline loss. Most bundles can be removed in 20 minutes.

POWER

Power is provided by diesel-driven, variable volume hydraulic pump, located on the power console.

The console contains large stainless steel reservoirs for oil and fuel. Mounted on casters, the power console is pulled by the carrier. In reverse movement, the console rotates off to one side.Tension chains, with slack adjusters, allow the console to move as one unit with the carrier, to facilitate loading and unloading onto trailers.

CREW SAFETY

Worker safety is inherent with the Mobile Extractor. There are no awkward saddle slings, winch-truck rigging and sheave blocks, so crews are not exposed to their hazardous use.

OPERATION

The carrier is maneuvered into position from the control car, and extraction is performed by the operator at a

12-volt DC remote control panel. The main pull car is moved by a ball screw system capable of exerting 50 tons of pull force. The car uniquely compresses the main rails with four sets of rollers, rather than digging into the rail with a turning moment. This improved technique increases the efficiency of the force applied by the

ball screw. The bundle is pulled at a continuous speed that can be as high as 100 inches per minute at full load.

MAXIMUM MOBILITY

The R.O.P.E. Mobile Extractor is a 4-wheel drive unit that is virtually as "flexible as a rope." The carrier travels with either two-wheel or four-wheel crab steering, to move sideways and forward, rotating 360 degrees within its own length. Each wheel contains a hydraulic motor. Hydraulic brakes actuate when hydraulic pressure is reduced to a minimum, locking the unit in a working position. The unit can climb 12 percent grades with a 60,000 pound load. Solid tires withstand up to 21,000 pounds each. In the elevated position, the extractor

can be shifted sideways, forward and backward. The standard unit can pull heat exchangers with obstructions 39 inches from the center line of the exchanger shell.

WIDE ADAPTABILITY

Engineered and manufactured by Hydro-Extractors, the standard R.O.P.E. is designed for tube bundles measuring 72 inches by 24 feet and weighing up to 30 tons. It can pull any bundle from 26 inches to

12 feet 10 inches above grade, as measured to the bottom of the tube sheet. It can be custom

designed to handle any diameter, length and weight bundle up to a range of 20 feet elevation above grade. In addition, an existing extractor can be adapted to the Mobile Extractor. No other technology offers all of its adaptability to extract and replace tube bundles, especially in tight quarters. The advanced features and unmatched performance of R.O.P.E. make it a smart investment that pays for itself quickly.
